The 14'0" Laird Bark is a great race board for bigger and or taller paddlers. At 29.4" wide, and 275 liters of volume, it has the stability and floatation for paddlers up to 250 or so pounds. The pulled in nose and rounded pin tail give the board an efficient water entry and release, and providing really enjoyable speed and glide. However, due to the width and volume, its also a board you can enjoy yourself on when just taking it easy and cruising up the coast or exploring the far side of the lake. The 14' length allows you to paddle further than you had previously travelled in your typical outing due to the increased travel-distance per stroke.
Here's what co-designer and SUP pioneer Laird Hamilton had to say about his line of Laird/Bark boards:
"My new "Laird" collection (12'6" and 14" foot) designed with Joe Bark, comes in Surftech's Tuflite construction, which is extremely durable. In addition, theLaird/Barks are available in a "Pro Elite" model, which is lighter and faster, and thus more fragile; and geared for performance. Joe Bark is the foremost shaper in fast touring boards that are great in all conditions, both flat-water and the boards can ride waves, in open-ocean swells which is unique. Currently, Joe designs the fastest paddleboards in the world and this is an evolution of our collaborative work together."
The 14'0" Laird is available in only in Surftech's super light weight "Pro-Elite" construction. However, at Covewater we also have the popular, more durable "Tuflite" construction in stock (as of 5/13). Prices are as follows:
Tuflite Construction: $2,250
Pro-Elite Construction: $2,470
